A man was seen with what appeared to be a shotgun in Douglas this morning.
Police officers were sent to the area of Bridge Road and Lake Road, Douglas near Tesco’s store following a report from the public.
The man has not been found or identified, but police say they are keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen this person in the area at about 8am.
Armed police officers were deployed to the area as a precaution, and to assist in the search for this person.
A police spokesman said: ‘We would like to stress that at no point has anyone been threatened or harmed, and it is quite possible there is a totally innocent explanation.
‘If you were in the area at the time, do you recall seeing a male in his early 50s, balding grey hair, wearing a dark jacket, dark trousers, with a backpack? The male was described as carrying what appeared to be a shotgun, held under one arm, which appeared to be partially covered with a bin-bag.’
