Death row Staffie may be on run in Scotland

The fate of death row dog Junior remains undecided, a court has said, after hearing the snappy Staffie may have fled the jurisdiction.

Kieran Iain James Keggin, aged 27, of Church Road, Port Erin, admitted three offences of failing to keep Junior under proper control, keeping a dangerous dog and allowing the dog to cause alarm or annoyance.

The offences all related to an incident when Junior bit a man on Port Erin beach on May 13 this year. In October, Keggin was ordered to pay £400 compensation and £50 prosecution costs.

The case was then adjourned so Junior’s owner, who is not Keggin, could make representations as to why the dog, which was already subject to an order to be kept under proper control, should not be destroyed.

However, prosecutor Hazel Carroon said the Staffie appeared to have gone missing and reports suggested he was living beyond the court’s jurisdiction, in Scotland. The case was adjourned until December 17.
