Literary winners celebrate

THE Isle of Man Literary Society has announced the winners of its Olive Lamming Memorial Literary Competition 2011, sponsored by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

In each of the three categories, first place receives £100, second £50 and third £25.

Kerry Sharpe won the short story category, with Susan Chalmers second and Michael Manning and Allison Fletcher sharing third place.

In the poetry competition, the winner was Joanne Weeks, second was Frances Butler and third Jacqueline Shirtliff – while Frank Kershaw received a high recommendation.

The essay/article category was won by John Payne, with Peter Peacock in second and Susie Cooper and Jacqueline Shirtliff in joint third.

The presentations and a report will be made at the Literary Society’s next meeting, at 7.15pm tomorrow (Tuesday, January 10) at Jabberwocky in Douglas, to which all entrants and friends are invited to attend.
