FIREFIGHTERS were called to a flat blaze in Douglas in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
They were called to a the fire in Bucks Road at 1am after receiving reports of smoke coming from the window of a flat.
At first, not all people in the building could be accounted for and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building to search for trapped occupants.
They quickly discovered the origin of the fire and were able to put it out.
Fortunately, the flat occupant had managed to make his way out after the alarm went off, but he was suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to Noble’s Hospital as a precaution.
Fire damage was confined to the lounge area of the flat.
A fire service spokesman said that if it wasn’t for the compulsory fire alarm system in the flat, the blaze could have been much worse.
He added the cause of the fire was not thought to be suspicious.
