Influential Manxwoman Wendy Mayall has been appointed as non-executive board director for an island financial firm.
Thornton Associates is now known as Thornton Chartered Financial Planners.
She has been taken on to provide independent oversight of the firm’s strategy and operation and to help promote Isle of Man living to new and former island residents.
Established by Manx-born managing director, Sharon Sutton in 2000, Thornton Chartered Financial Planners provides independent, multi-jurisdictional financial planning advice and whole of market investment advice to private individuals, trustees and business owners in the Isle of Man and in the UK.
Currently resident of the UK but with longings to return to island life, Wendy Mayall has had a distinguished career.
Wendy sits on several investment boards and committees and has received many investment industry awards.
She was once voted the 35th most powerful chief investment officer globally.
Wendy graduated from The University of Manchester in 1981 with a BSc in Management Sciences and an MSc in Business Finance.
She was awarded the Lomax Memorial Prize for best dissertation about the Isle of Man, ‘An Island in Transition’.
More recently, Wendy was presented by The University of Manchester with the award ‘Outstanding Alumna of the Year 2000’.
Wendy started her career in 1982 as an investment manager at Thorn EMI.
Following that, she was co-founder of Stamford Associates, investment advisers to St James Place.
In 1995 Wendy joined Unilever, where she enjoyed a long career as chief investment officer.
After that, Wendy undertook the role of group chief investment officer at LV= (formerly Liverpool Victoria.
Wendy has been responsible for many different types of investment strategies and asset allocation processes.
She has travelled extensively throughout the world undertaking investment manager research, and managing multiple manager investment structures, across all asset classes,
She has extensive experience of governance structures.

Wendy told Business News in April 2012 of her joy after being judged one of the 100 most influential women working in European finance.
The 100 Most Influential Women were selected by Financial News’s editorial panel from a long list of women working in finance. She was delighted to be picked as one of the cream of female executives working in European financial markets. She has enjoyed a sparkling career which has seen her hit the public spotlight but told Buisness News: ‘I am proud of my Manx roots and always look forward to coming home.’ She attended Douglas High School.
