Road users are being urged to be aware of a slow moving vehicle on Manx roads over the next week.

The deflectograph, a survey vehicle which travels at walking pace, will be assessing the island’s roads until Sunday, November 1.

The vehicle measures how much the surface of the road moves as it drives along to give an indication of the state of the road foundations which helps estimate the lifespan of the road.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: ‘This information will provide an accurate picture of the condition of our highways and help the department to target its resources where they are most needed.

‘Road maintenance is a key part of our commitment to maintaining a good quality infrastructure that supports our communities and the growth of the Manx economy. I would like to thank road users for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.’

Routes have been planned in a effort to minimise traffic disruption at peak times. Updates on the location of the deflectograph vehicle will be provided by the department via its Twitter account @iominfra and on the Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure Facebook page.

In addition other specialist survey vehicles have been working to assess the ride quality the wet skid resistance on Manx roads.
