The Tides are a band whose name I’ve heard bandied around numerous times in recent weeks and they have me intrigued.

The lineup features Danny Foulis and Kaysee Craine on guitars and vocals respectively and they formed back in February.

They cite their influences as the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye at one end, through to Van Morrisson, Tracey Chapman, Ed Sheeran, Oasis and Jake Bugg at the other end of the spectrum.

While still very new to the live scene in the island, they are certainly keeping themselves busy there as they head to The Bath and Bottle in Douglas for an appearance tomorrow night (Friday).

This Saturday also sees ‘Guitarathon’ taking place at O’Donnell’s Pub in Strand Street in Douglas.

Kicking off at 11am (yes, 11am) and running through until midnight, the line-up features acoustic presences from 3 Million, Chris Gray, Ian Thompson, The Tides, Shoh Slaynt, Eugene Wilson, King Of The Forrest, Suzy Manton, Nikki Nadan, Donna Culligon, Gareth Hading, Keiron Ball and many others over the course of the event.

The event is free entry, however all money raised will be donated to Anthony Nolan.

If a little soul and classic blues is your kind of thing, then get yourself down to Amber Bar in Douglas on Saturday night as the venue plays host to four-piece band Borderline.

The line-up of the band consists of Heinrich Koop, Keith Randall, Alan Presford and Nigel Johnson, who play a set that mixes Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, Rockabilly, a little Country and Western, 60s Soul and Delta blues.

They pick their musical influences to include the likes of Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Robert Cray, Albert King, BB King, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Moon Mullican, Little Walter, Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker and Ray Charles.

Doors open at 8pm with the band hitting the stage from around 9pm.

Alternative band Postcode have released an EP in the shape of ‘The Dandelion Radio Session’.

This EP is the first release to feature the newest version of the line-up that comprises drummer Jonny Peacock, bassist Steve Halsall, guitarist Kieran Ball and founding members Marie Reynolds and Mikie Daugherty.

Containing five tracks, the EP features three new songs, alongside the first electric version of ‘Donny’ and a rendition of ‘Reds’ recorded specially for the session.

Following a series of records that saw Postcode experimenting with Slowcore, Shoegaze and Indie Pop, ‘The Dandelion Radio Session’ sees them in more familiar alt.rock territory, closer to their live shows, with hints of post punk and the occasional nod to post rock thrown in.
