A large number of mourners are expected at the funeral of John Kennaugh on Thursday.

The well-known farmer, radio commentor and Captain of the Parish of German died last week.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at St John’s Methodist Church, Main Road, St John’s, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Police say they expect a great number of mourners will attend St John’s wishing to pay their respects, far more than the Methodist Church and surrounding space will be able to accommodate.

So they will be enforcing a temporary diversion of all traffic from the area to facilitate the safety of all mourners who attend on the day.

From no earlier than 1230pm until no later than 3pm, police will divert all vehicular traffic through St John’s.

Signage will be in place at Ballacraine diverting main traffic via The Hope and Ballig Bridge, St John’s (residential vehicle access only allowed to the point of Tynwald Close) and Main Road junction with Station Road, St John’s diverting traffic to The Hope and Tynwald Mills.

Police officers will be present at points Ballacraine, Tynwald Close and Station Road to ensure minimal traffic disruption.

Bus Vannin has been informed and all bus routes will be altered during this period.

Parking areas for mourners attending the funeral have been allocated, for information on these contact undertaker David Lancaster on 842945

Officers at Peel police station are co-ordinating the arrangements.
