Firefighters believe a carelessly discarded cigarette was to blame for a blaze in Peel this morning.
Emergency services were called at about 8.15am to a block of four flats in Battery Road, Peel.
The caller was unsure whether everyone was safely out of the building.
Two fire appliances from Peel fire station and one from Kirk Michael were sent.
A number of people rang 999 to report smoke billowing out of the 1st floor windows.
Crews in the first floor flat found an armchair and the surrounding area on fire.
Firefighters struggled to put out the fire ‘due to the density of personal belongings in the flat’.
Several items had to be removed from the property in order to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished using a high pressure hose reel.
Two residents received a precautionary check-up from paramedics on site with no further treatment required.
Residents were alerted to the fire thanks to the building’s alarm.
