There was a worrying post on Facebook this week about a cat which was left outside Mann Cat Sanctuary in Santon.
It wasn’t in a box and when the Mann Cat volunteer who witnessed its arrival reached it the cat was contemplating a leap into the traffic on the very busy Santon road.
All’s well that ends well but please, if you have an animal you can no longer care for, let us or another rescue in the island know.
A telephone call, a note in the cat box will be enough but don’t just leave it without telling us – we had a Staffie left in a cat box in our car park some time ago!
We won’t judge, we won’t comment but, for the sake of the animal, dog, cat or rabbit, please tell us, don’t just leave it as this will cause distress and make it difficult to rehabilitate.
The more information we have about background the easier it is to find the ideal home so please be responsible and let us help you – it’s what we’re all here for.
This problem is also reflected in the number of unclaimed dogs now coming to us through the Dog Warden service. We can’t always take a dog immediately as our kennels are full to overflowing but we will do all we can to help and we would like to set up a list of potential foster parents for animals, partly to create a little more space in our kennels but mainly for the benefit of the animals so please come and talk to us if you think you could help.
Poor Sir Hopsalot!
He has a great name, great personality, good looks and yet nobody has fallen for his charms.
He was a stray, a super white bunny who just wants somebody to love him and give him his favourite hay and parsley snack. If you’re feeling creative you could knit your own Hopsalot from a pattern on line but it will be much more fun to have the real bunny in your life!
Tilly and Tina are the longest residents in the cattery and, although they’re still shy, they are getting braver and with time, love and patience will be great pets. They need a quiet home with an understanding owner who will allow them the time they need to settle down.
They love the cat garden, potter around happily then lie together on the couch in the social room but they are still wary of people and need time to adjust. Taking on these two pretty girls will not be a quick fix but it will be worth it to see them eventually develop into purring, happy pets. The fashion for choosing names of cities extends to cats! Paris and Lyon are beautiful babies, not yet a year old.
They have been with us since April this year but it has taken a while for us to be happy about rehoming them as they are shy little furballs who will hide inside the sofa in the social rooms but can be coaxed out if they’re offered a treat – they love Dreamies.
Paris is shiny black and Lyon is a handsome tabby, they need to be socialised as they had limited contact with humans before coming to the cattery and those early kitten days are so important in a cat’s development. They came from Ramsey so they’d like to move to the sunny south of the island so get to know them and encourage them to be brave and affectionate so they look forward to your visits and really want to go home with you.
Sid the Staffie needs a friend – he’s looking for someone who understands that his fear of other dogs isn’t his fault but almost certainly because of lack of socialisation at an early age which is, as we’ve already mentioned, an increasing problem. Sid’s a love, chases tennis balls, enjoys his treats and is a really fun dog. Please help Sid learn to trust and he’ll give you all the loyalty and devotion the Staffie breed is known for.
Make sure you think of us when you’re clearing your wardrobes for the new season.
Our two shops will soon be filled with glorious outfits which will make you the envy of your friends who won’t believe that you could find such style for so little expense.
Charity shop chic is the new fashion and it’s great to wear beautiful clothes with a clear conscience, knowing you are helping the animals of the Isle of Man.
