Visitors to Cregneash at the weekend had a chance to discover what life was like for the island’s rural community during the Second World War.

The event was part of the annual action-packed Island at War weekend on the Isle of Man Steam Railway, where the popular 1940s wartime events centred around Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin stations. There were demonstrations by the Isle of Man Home Guard and Women’s Land Army, as well as harvesting and agricultural displays.

Guided tours around the village with Labyrinth: History in Heels took in the stories of women and others caught up in the national struggle.

Dr Andrew Foxon led guided tours of the Second World War radar station on Meayll Hill.
