An initiative being promoted by the Isle of Man Lyons Club should help motorcyclists and horse riders if they are unlucky enough to suffer an accident.
The Message in a Helmet scheme distributes cards for people to fill in giving essential medical details which would help paramedics in the event of a crash.
The card can then be filed in the lining of a motorcycle, horse rider’s, or indeed any other helmet, and its presence is indicated for paramedics by placing a small green sticker on the outside shell of the helmet.
Questions to be filled in by the card carrier include details of any allergies, illnesses and current medication as well as contact details for next of kin and personal details such as name, address and telephone number.
Instructions are also included to ensure that any helpers at an accident scene stay safe themselves and are able to give pertinent information to the emergency services, such as the location, what vehicles are involved and how serious the accident appears to be. For more information on this or the Message in a Bottle scheme which provides a bottle with similar information, call 661838.
