John Maddrell, of Ballahane Farm in Port Erin, sent in this picture of swallows which have taken advantage of a mended nest in his old cow shed.
John, who is well-known as a former chief photographer for Isle of Man Newspapers and continues to work for the company on a relief basis since his retirement last year, said: ‘When the swallows had fledged last year the nest fell off the beam, so my brother David and son James stuck it back with tape because the young swallows were flying back to it and roosting in the evening.
‘This year when the swallows arrived they started to build a new nest, but gave up and used the old one stuck up with the tape. They’ve now raised a brood of three chicks in there.’
