The community of Maughold came out in force on Saturday to celebrate parish day.
Parish queen Ealish Royle, pictured above with attendants Sophie Smith and Fleur Hall, made a speech of welcome before entertainment was provided by the pupils of Dhoon School, plus traditional fancy dress, bonny baby and knobbly knee competitions.
The action then moved from the green to the sports field where every race was hotly contested. The organisers were delighted to find that there were more competitors than ever –and noted that they will have to buy more sweets for all the finishers next year.
The day was rounded off with the Maughold Head race, which was won by Peter Fargher, who is Maughold born and bred but had returned to the island for a short break. One onlooker said: ‘The delight at his win rounded off a particularly happy and successful day.’
