Breakthrough Breast Cancer has merged with Breast Care Campaign to create the biggest breast cancer charity in the British Isles.

Breast Cancer Now was launched at Westminster last week, attended by Kim Makin, Carol Glover and Jan Brooks of the renamed Breast Cancer Now Isle of Man group. The charity’s aim is to stop women dying from the disease by 2050.

The charity’s Isle of Man group secretary Kim Makin said: ‘I was delighted to attend the launch and was surprised and proud to discover the work of the Isle of Man group is well-known and admired for its fundraising, innovative approaches and awareness building on behalf of the charity.

‘I was very motivated to hear of the determined and positive ambition of Breast Cancer Now, from employees and other supporters, plus we had the opportunity to chat to and hear from some of the top breast cancer researchers and scientists working towards the shared vision.

‘Our group, led by Angie Aire, is always grateful for the strong support of the people of the Isle of Man as we work to fund new and innovative treatments and approaches for what is still the biggest women’s healthcare issue of this generation.’

Angie, who chairs the island group, said the charity’s aim was built on strong values of strength, purpose, collaboration and hope.

‘We’ll move away from a diagnosis that causes fear and emptiness to a generation where everybody who is diagnosed lives.

‘That is something the Isle of Man group are passionate about and we will work tirelessly to achieve.’
